Virgin Media Customer Service has a decent reputation, but in the ever growing digital landscape self-service is always nice. TV anywhere is always nicer. So what’s better than a TV anywhere app convenient lodged on your smartphone? Keep reading for Chris Rand’s take on the app.
Virgin Media customer services’ take on bigger apps.
Technical journalist Chris was given a working copy for review by the folks at Virgin Media, and here’s what he had to say about it. The app is, of course, part of the ‘TV Anywhere’ suite offered by Virgin Media customer service to allow you to access your TV subscription across multiple platforms and devices- as well as allow them to interact with each other. The iPad app is designed to offer a limited channel set as well as some controls for the TiVo boxes.
It’s an obvious competitor in the field, given the proliferation of the BBC iPlayer and Sky TV’s Sky Go app. So clearly Virgin Media complaints have been enough that they feel obliged to offer a competing app. Does it do quite as much as these two industry leaders? Not quite, given there’s only 30 live streamed channels available, and many of them are not the heavy movie and sport channels. While Chris can see the uses of the app as an entertainment device, it’s still in its early stages and as yet is not entirely living up to the best in the field of its competitors.
Why would I want it, then?
But hang in there. Chris maintains that you will want this app badly if you already subscribe to a Virgin Media TV package. Streaming is only half of its job. It also acts as a substitute controller for the Virgin TiVo box that’s included with all of their TV packages. That doesn’t sound like much until you use it. This exquisitely designed app allows you to use your iPad in place of the remote- and that’s a bigger deal then it seems. Handheld remotes pale into insignificance next to it.
You’ll be free to browse the guide, check your own account, and get program details and more without having to miss a moment on the screen. The ton of links available to you on the TiVo interface already are easier to use, more convenient and a ton more appealing. It’s also easy to search and interact with.
Does it look good?
There will be no calls to Virgin Media complaints about the app’s look, either. It’s a good looking app with crisp handling and great response. Chris could find nothing to complain about. It’s also a good substitute for the buggy Virgin TV Guide app, which has caused issues on Apple systems before.learn more details at http://www.telecompaper.com/news/virgin-media-launches-new-animal-archetype-ad–1071423
Overall, Chris found the streaming channel offerings of the Virgin app at the moment slightly limited when compared with others in their field, but a stunningly useful app to operate with the TiVo system. Use the Virgin Media telephone number [0843 515 8680] if you’d like to order it, or download online.
